Museum of Civilization Wedding | Emily & John
Just the other night I was online chatting to a friend of mine, Melanie from m photography – a wedding photographer in Ottawa when she brought up an idea of shooting the last wedding of the season together. Now I thought I had already shot my last wedding the weekend before, but after looking at the venue, I was sold. The Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec has some crazy architecture that I just couldn’t pass up. I woke up two days later extra early for my 5 hour drive to Ottawa for Emily & John’s wedding.
PS. After reading my comments I realized I made no mention about my sideshow. At almost every wedding I try to put a few shots that I have taken throughout the day and put them on my laptop for everyone to see during the reception. It’s always a hit with everyone, but I had a first for this wedding. Not only did I get Emily to shed some happy tears, but Melanie started crying too. I did take a picture of Melanie wiping away some tears but for fear for my life and for future possible blackmail, I will not be posting them at this time.

The very moment Emily saw John on their wedding day.

This was a really fun shot to get. Below you can see where I was.

Melanie managed to grab this angle of me shooting with the capital buildings in the background. I tend to stand on ledges but it’s always worth the shot.

There were some really awesome places to shoot here. This one required a bit of fence hopping.

Emily being an absolute trooper to get into the caged area. This shows dedication to getting the shot!

Emily is a really creative person and handled most of the decorating/details herself. She’s a designer and operates her own website.

It was a great little trip and definitely worth the drive. I managed to get to see my cousins at the same time which was great! I think it’s safe to say this was my last wedding of the season. I have a lot of new stuff in store for 2010. Expect to see big changes and lots of improvements!

Jon,
So glad you were able to make the long drive- which I think speaks to your passion for photography! You are such a talented photographer- your creativity, technical saavy and artistic eye in post-processing, create some outstanding images…I have no doubt that your 2010 brides will be amazed again and again…
You failed to mention how your slideshow of our images played during the reception to bring the bride…and consequently myself to tears…a true indication of capturing some perfect and precious moments. I’ll have to blog that
Wonderful job …you were a pleasure to work with and I do look forward to doing it again…
Hey Jon,
Thanks so much for making us look so good, you and Melanie both did a wonderful job. I’m glad you made the trek to Ottawa, it was great to meet you. Thanks again!
John
I consider myself a pretty chill chiquita, Jon…. but I have to admit that I’ve emitted some squealing while scrolling through these shots. I didn’t realize you made the trip to Ottawa just for this — holy toledo!!! You’re right: the venue was absolutely perfect. And somehow, you can’t tell that we’re FREEZING our arses off outside… is that a special filter you have on your camera? Really though, thank you a million times over for helping capture such a special day for us. I’d hug you AGAIN if you were here. Wanna t-shirt? Seriously! Let me know if there’s one you like, and I’l send it to you in TO
@melanie I updated the post, I can’t believe I forgot to mention your tears!
@mchen I wish you could capture the squealing in blog comments, although it may scare my other viewers. You are very welcome, it was a blast. I would love a shirt. I actually checked out your site just before heading to Ottawa and really liked the monkey reconnect shirt. They are awesome. I used to have a silkscreen press myself but now my cousin in Ottawa has it.
John & Melanie, you are a force! You make me want to get married all over again just so you can take the pictures. I hope you know how important photographs are to this particular trigger-happy pair. I’m so relieved they managed to get two of the best wedding photogs I’ve ever laid eyes on to shoot their special day. They looked incredible and you captured it, and then some!
